Situated in the tranquil estate of Monaghan Farm, this home was designed to take full advantage of the site’s particular location and climate. This single storey home is hidden from view upon the main, southern approach. Sunken into the landscape, the residence sweeps delicately across the site in a series of stepped platforms framed by curved, off-shutter concrete walls and timber decks.

The central entrance boldly frames the landscape beyond and acts as a sculptural divide between the living and bedroom spaces.

Expansive openings along the northern façade allow glazing to disappear into cavity walls, enabling the homeowners to continuously integrate with and experience the landscape from all areas of the home.  Furthermore, passive design strategies relating to cross ventilation, shading and thermal massing were some of the elements employed in creating a comfortable, living environment.

Whilst working within extensive, estate guidelines, Mode Design Studio’s approach has resulted in a holistic, innovative solution that showcases their sensitivity to context and design sensibility.
